National Dress Up Your Pet Day. 14 of January

Celebrate the day by dressing up your pet. Not only is the day for dressing up cats and dogs, but if you have a bunny, guinea pig, hamster, bird, or even a farm animal, you can dress them up too. It is important to make sure your pet is comfortable though. Obviously whatever they are wearing must be safe, but even if they are wearing something safe and they just don't seem to like it, don't force them to wear it. Celebrate the day by taking pictures of your pets in their costumes and sharing them online. Have a party and have your friends bring their dressed up pets. You could also have a neighborhood pet parade. Besides dressing up your pet, Colleen Paige has some other suggestions on how to celebrate the day, such as donating supplies to animal welfare organizations, volunteering at an animal shelter, and writing to your representative and asking them to ban puppy mills.

National Dress Up Your Pet Day is a day for people to dress up their pets, and the larger goal of the day is to raise awareness for pet adoption. The day was founded by Colleen Paige, who also started holidays such as National Dog Day and National Cat Day. She has said that all of her holidays "have the underlying goal to help save lives and give homeless animals as much exposure as possible."

National Dress Up Your Pet Day is being observed today! It has been observed annually on January 14th since 2009.
