Bishop, Johann Otto von Gemmingem

Abassad was a bishop and martyr of the early Christian church. After being tortured, he was beheaded by the command of Arrianus under Diocletian. His feast day is December 23. Age: 200 to 300.

Bishop is an ordained, consecrated, appointed member of the Christian clergy who is generally entrusted with a position of authority and oversight. bishops claim apostolic succession, a direct historical lineage dating back to the original Twelve Apostles. bishops are seen as those who possess the full priesthood and can ordain clergy – including another bishop. bishop is understood to hold the fullness of the (ministerial) priesthood, given responsibility by Christ to govern, teach and sanctify the Body of Christ, members of the Faithful.
