After receiving a degree of Cornell University of engineering physic and aerospace engineering he returned to Columbia to become a professor and director of medical research at the Universidad de los Andes.
In 1979 he was named a Chair of the Medical Research Comitee.
In 1981 he foundated the Abiomed and kept doing the Research of inmplantable heart.
Abiomed had been created to assist and replace the cardiac function of the heart. In 2012 more then 2000 patients recieved a ventricular assist system. As a result of David´s contributions, many of this clients will live more then 10 meaningfull years with their medical implant.
The first fully inmplantable artificial heart were implanted into Kentucky man in 2001.
In 2017 the company´s net worth is $38 million.
